Scott A. Barnett, MD is a fellowship-trained hand and upper extremity orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in upper extremity and microvascular surgery with an emphasis on hand, wrist, elbow, and peripheral nerve pathology.

Scott A. Barnett, MD grew up in the Dallas suburb of Plano, Texas. He attended Georgetown University in Washington, DC where he earned his bachelor's degree in Honors Biochemistry. He went on to earn his medical degree at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.Following medical school, Dr. Barnett completed orthopaedic surgery residency at Louisiana State University in New Orleans before moving to Los Angeles, California for the Boyes Hand and Upper Extremity Fellowship at the University of Southern California. During fellowship, Dr. Barnett provided care for high-acuity trauma patients at Los Angeles General Hospital performing complex fracture stabilization, revascularization, replantation, and microvascular reconstruction.Dr. Barnett specializes in nonoperative and operative management of a wide array of hand and upper extremity problems. His interests include upper extremity fracture care, elbow injuries and instability, tendon and nerve repairs, carpal tunnel and other nerve compression syndromes, brachial plexus reconstruction, targeted muscle reinnervation, arthritic conditions of the upper extremity, and post-traumatic upper extremity reconstruction.
Dr. Barnett is an active member of the medical staff at St. David’s hospitals as well as CHRISTUS Santa Rosa, with clinic locations in South Austin, Bastrop, and San Marcos. He is currently a candidate member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. Dr. Barnett has published several papers and textbook chapters in the field of orthopaedic surgery and has presented at numerous national conferences.In his free time, Dr. Barnett enjoys running Town Lake and golfing. His wife, Ashley, is a cardiac anesthesiologist in Austin. They spend their free time travelling and wake surfing on Lake Austin.
